Fife Council invest in Flood protection range of products

SITUATION

Fife Council made the decision to invest in new flood protection products, in addition to the use of traditional sandbags.

IMPLEMENTATION

After allocation of funding, Gravitas was contracted to supply 6000+ HydroSack®s to be distributed across Fife as an emergency supply provision.

RESULTS

Council representatives found the HydroSack®s extremely effective in preventing flood damage compared to other means. By storing them in the flood-affected communities they were in the best possible position to prevent flood damage.

Councillor Pat Callaghan, executive member for Transportation & Environment said

"We have really improved our existing high levels of preparedness and we have stringent policies in place for regular watercourse and known at risk flooding locations inspections. In addition we have significant emergency supply provisions, such as 6000 plus HydroSacks®, at any time in Fife and will continue to improve communications and incident management.

In the last year, I've witnessed a number of communities in Fife being devastated by flooding. It can happen very suddenly, so as a Council we want to do everything we can to help people take preventative measures now. These new flood protection sacks i.e. HydroSacks® are far more effective in preventing flood damage than traditional sandbags, and by storing them in the communities that have been affected by flooding before; we're in the best possible position to prevent flood damage."
